Powering the imagination is at the core of everything we do here at Roblox. One of the ways we seek to continually celebrate that vision from within the organization is through our beloved annual Hack Week tradition, which recently took place from March 26th to the 30th.
Hack Week is a fun, impactful opportunity to test our coding prowess, stimulate our creative muscles, and shape the future of the Roblox platform in new and unexpected ways. Every year, various Roblox teams take a short break from their normal day-to-day routines to focus exclusively on building amazing things they’re passionate about, no matter how ambitious. Whether it’s improving the way we work internally or creating inventive tools for the developer community, everyone at our headquarters teems with excitement about the vast potential of some of the incredible ideas that are formed over these five days. There’s no risk of failure during Hack Week; just pure innovation, experimentation, and unbridled creativity.
Inside Roblox’s Hack Week
In the spirit of community, we’d like to share a short highlight reel of some of the cool experiments that were born out of this year’s Hack Week. In the end, 75 projects (a new Hack Week record!) went from intriguing ideas to actual concepts.
As a reminder, none of the projects you see here in this video are currently planned on our roadmap and were only made to test the limits of our creativity and technology. With that said, please enjoy this brief look into our 2018 Hack Week:
What happens to all those great Hack Week ideas?
At the end of the week, we all get together and let everyone present their completed projects in front of the entire company. Although most of them are simply demonstrations and may never truly see the light of day, there is a small chance a few of those ideas may someday make it into our product pipeline for an official release.
