As always, our goal at Roblox is to continue innovating and developing cutting-edge tools for the millions of emerging creators on our platform. Over the years, we’ve been absolutely blown away by the level of detail and sheer magnitude of creativity exhibited on Roblox with new advancements in physics, lighting, effects, and more. Now, with the recent arrival of the new Glass material in Studio, we’re looking forward to seeing even more elaborate and visually stunning creations in the very near future.

With the new Glass material, builders can take advantage of several exciting graphical features that were previously unavailable on most other existing Roblox materials. Glass, for example, gets shinier based on its Reflectance value. Plastic and SmoothPlastic are the only other materials that can be made to look shiny. And that’s just scratching the surface. Let’s take a look at a few more examples below to see what else you can do to make your projects more immersive than ever before.

Tint

Translucent glass tints the light that comes through. For example, red glass will block green and blue light, but let red light pass through.

Now you see it, now you don’t.

Fresnel Reflections

Reflections on glass increase in strength the sharper your viewing angle to the surface. This gives a reflective outline effect around the edges of objects. The reflected image comes from the skybox.

Oooh, shiny.

Refractions

On high quality graphics levels, glass will distort the image of the objects behind it. Refraction strength decreases as the Transparency property increases.

His mind is so blown he can’t even tell there’s a bunch of squids ambushing him.
