When you step into Tot3m’s showcase it may seem as though you’ve arrived in a peaceful room where you can relax in solitude. The music is calming, and you can hear the gentle patter of the rain outside the window. There’s also a steaming bowl of food – right by the computer – which looks absolutely delicious! Aesthetically, it’s easy to feel relaxed and comfortable in the two small rooms.

However, as you explore the two rooms more closely, it’s clear that there is more to this world than meets the eye! There are posters which read, “I Fear the End” and “I Enjoy Being Alone” with the subtitle “Until I’m Lonely.” Also, if you listen to the music closely, you can hear how it also talks about how “they don’t understand.” Perhaps this is a place which represents a very sad loneliness.

Still, there are beacons of hope. When you explore further, you’ll see the small sign which says, “Be Happy,” next to the computer, as well as a cute picture of a girl on the bookshelf, and a small sign which says, “Contentment.”

All themes aside, Fentanest is an absolutely beautiful showcase, which has so many details, especially for only having two small rooms. If you look outside the window you can see many neon signs, in both English and Chinese. There’s also a ladder you can climb up to explore a small bed area, similar to a mini loft. There are also some clues that the person who lives in this place is a DJ, as you can see audio being worked on on the computer.

Overall, Fentanest is a very interesting and unique showcase. We spoke to Tot3m, the creator, and asked them a few questions about his game.

Roblox: About how long did it take you to make Fentanest?

Tot3m: It took me about 7 months in total, although I didn’t have much time to build Fentanest in that 7 months; I built whenever I could.

How exactly did you go about making Fentanest? What were some of the main techniques you used?

I just started to build as I went along. I started building a lot of models while using Model Resize Plugin 2.1 to scale them down. So, even though Fentanest is small, it’s big at the same time.

Any interesting facts about this game in particular?

At the start of Fentanest, I wanted it to be a Steampunk town. I noticed that I took too long to even make a table so I scaled it down to a room.

There is a great deal of evidence to illustrate a steampunk theme in Fentanest. The giant window is basically a porthole, and it has an interesting rusty wheel next to it, which feels very steampunk. Plus, the piping on the ceiling adds to this aesthetic. There is also a futuristic-looking bike beneath the bed, which suggests a more futuristic setting. Where did you get the idea to make this game through Roblox Studio?

I just decided to try out a Chinese theme, with the normal Steampunk motifs that I always build. I added my emotions and feelings into it pretty much.

What got you into building on Roblox in the first place?

I started building on Roblox probably in late 2011 or early 2012 in a game named “Create-a-Creature.” I met a lot of builders there and they talked to me a lot. After awhile, “Create-a-Creature” lost popularity so I went on random games on Roblox for fun.

Did any other builders on Roblox inspire you?

It started out when I saw OriginatedSystemized’s “Irregularity” and I was blown away. It was my favorite showcase. After seeing “Irregularity,” I wanted to make my own showcase. Seeing how OriginatedSystemized put his emotions into the game, I wanted to do that too. So, I started researching all of the builders on Roblox. EBR’s EBR Office is another showcase that inspired me to start building my own. The amount of detail they can put in a small room is nuts!

Do you have tips for other builders who want to make games similar to yours?

I know this sounds cheesy, but don’t give up. Really, it’s better to make a bad showcase and improve from it, than to give up. Just complete what you started and be proud!

You have quite a few creations! Which has been your favorite to create? Which do you think took you the longest?

Even though I think that Fentanest is better than “Seoliem,” “Seoliem” is probably still my favorite. That was the showcase where I learned the most, and experimented the most. I still feel a huge connection to it like it’s a living thing; maybe I’m going crazy haha.

It’s definitely not crazy to feel a connection to a game or showcase you’ve created. When you put a lot of time and effort into a creation, it becomes important to you. Anything our users can look forward to from you in the future?

I’ll probably make another showcase later on, since I don’t really have much time nowadays due to real life stuff, but I’ll try my best to build in my free time!
