So, you want to make a game? You came to the right place. Creating a game from scratch can be a daunting task. You’ve got to come up with an idea and persevere through the hurdles of game development until you finally have a completed product. And even then, there’s still more work to be done via updates or new content, for example. If you follow these steps, however, creating a game will be fun, rewarding, and not nearly as complex as it sounds.

Formulate

Before you start developing your game, you need an idea. This is crucial. The more original – or innovative – your idea is, the better. Don’t worry though, there are lots of ways to make sure you choose an idea that will succeed. Your first step is to brainstorm a bunch of game ideas; the more the better! While brainstorming, keep in mind what type of audience you’re making the game for. Choosing your audience is very important as it determines the outcome of your game. For example, ROBLOX High School or RoCitizens are roleplaying games that bring in specific audiences who are interested in highly social experiences.

Once you have a bunch of ideas, think about which ones you’d love to personally play. Remember, if the game isn’t fun for you, then it won’t be fun for your target audience. Once you’ve narrowed down your search to only a few ideas, pick one that you think will be successful in terms of monetization or overall popularity. Your decision could be based on current trends, audience, etc.

Create

Congratulations, you have your game idea! Now it’s time to put it into action. With so much to do, where do you even begin? Here at Roblox, we provide a few resources to help you make your idea a reality. You can check out our Wiki here, which hosts all the information you need to learn how to script on Roblox. You can also find a variety of videos that we’ve made to help here!

In addition to these resources, here are a few suggestions to help you stay on track. A great tip is to make a weekly checklist of what needs to be done. It is also important to set goals. If you set goals, the development process is much easier to streamline. Lastly, you need to get feedback on your game, so get a prototype out there. Don’t worry if the game isn’t perfect yet. There will be plenty of time to fix bugs and polish it later on.

Market

Now that your game is complete, here are some tips to encourage more people to play your new game. Advertisements are one of many extremely effective tools you have at your disposal. If you’d like to make an ad, check out this tutorial! You can also sponsor your game to get additional players.

Another great way to get more attention for your game is to use social media. You can show off your development progress, share new updates, or post exclusive in-game items for your followers to earn in your game. Twitter may be the most useful of all social media outlets because it’s so easy to interact with potential players. You can use the hashtags #Roblox and #RobloxDev to get more exposure for your tweets.

Last but not least, a fun way to get more players is to invite your friends! Getting your friends involved is a great way to increase your player count. Let all your friends know about your cool new game and have them play it with you.

After reading all of these tips and tricks, you’re well on your way to creating your very own Roblox game! All you need is a good idea, hard work, and the drive to make something great. We look forward to seeing your ideas brought to life!
