How long has it been since you’ve experience a creative and fun new obstacle course game? For me, it’s been awhile since that genre seemed well and truly explored. In this week’s spotlight we dive into a game that will fulfill your desire for a fun, creative, and entirely new kind of obstacle game, MeepCity: Star Ball.
MeepCity: Star Ball is an up-and-coming obstacle course from the creator of ROBLOX Dodgeball, Alexnewtron. Your goal in MeepCity: Star Ball is to traverse a multitude of worlds, each with six different levels to explore. Each level has three starts to collect, and each star is increasingly more difficult to get. Each of these worlds have a very unique style and feel to them which is complemented by a fitting soundtrack and great visual aesthetics.
There are currently four worlds each with different styles and challenges in them. The first world, Sunny Fields, is a delightful green sky island level where you roll through obstacles such as ramps, windmills, bumps, and mud that slows you down. In Candy Land, the aesthetic and challenge changes to a crazy candy coated dream land where you have to wade through syrup swamps, avoid dumper suckers, and climb chocolate bars to safety. The levels become increasingly more difficult as you go on which makes collecting the stars a continual challenge. I found myself spending a lot of time trying to perfect my run through different levels to get all three stars, and I enjoyed every minute doing so.
MeepCity: Star Ball also features a leaderboard system which uses a timer to rank how quickly you can collect all three stars. I was blown away by the times some people got on the worldwide leaderboard, but if you don’t want to compete with everyone it also lists your friends scores as well, so you can compete verses them to get the most stars in the least amount of time. This gives the game replay value and makes it fun to get better at.
One of the coolest features in MeepCity: Star Ball is how easy it is to use on a mobile device. The game shows what platform each player is playing on when they start a level so you can roll around on the PC while your friends play with you on their phones or tablets. It controls really smoothly and is a perfect example of the sort of game that functions well across all platforms. This makes it a perfect game to play with your friends, or relax over the weekend by yourself. You can even customize your character with coins you earn from stars to stand out amongst your friends.
MeepCity: Star Ball finds a perfect balance of relaxing music, fun level design, and challenge to keep me coming back for more. If you’re looking for something that immediately drops you into the fun, then MeepCity: Star Ball is the place for you.
And as always, until next time, keep on meepin on.
