Summer, 2014 may be a distant memory today, but it was our biggest season yet — so we thought we’d take a fond look back at the numbers. Millions of players and developers enjoyed spending some of their free time hanging out on ROBLOX, playing and making fantastic games that ranged from the spontaneous multiplayer action of The Mad Murderer and Reason 2 Die to the more rhythmic pace of Lumber Inc and 2-Player Gun Factory Tycoon (among many others). We compiled some of the stats from June through August so you can see a bird’s-eye view of how ROBLOXians spent their summers.
Over 4 million active ROBLOXians per month
We hit an average of nearly 4.5 million monthly active users during the course of summer. That’s a lot of people. Well, more like 300 thousand tons of people. For perspective, there are about 16.1 million U.S. students in grades 7-12. If you compare our monthly active users to that number…
All the time in the world
ROBLOX members racked up 189 million hours of gameplay (for an average of 63 million hours per month). That’s a massive amount of time! To put that number into perspective, that’s the same amount of time as 86,000 entire summer vacations.
Biggest tourist attraction ever
In June, July and August alone, ROBLOX users visited games a cumulative total of 391,374,954 times.
391 million visits is more than any single tourist spot in the world gets in a decade, let alone a single summer. Check out how just three months on ROBLOX compares to 12 months for the United States’ theme parks, and the combined weight of New York City’s top tourist spots.
Two’s a company, 170 thousand is a crowd
ROBLOX’s peak concurrent players during the summer months was a whopping 170,000. Remember how many people filled the stands for those World Cup games this summer? 170,000 of you ROBLOXians would fill up three of those stadiums. That’s a lot of hot dogs for all of you.
ROBLOX for the roadtrip
ROBLOX on mobile had a big summer, thanks in part to us launching on Android in July. We had over 1.2 million downloads of ROBLOX Mobile across all mobile platforms. If you stacked that many tablets in a tower, screen face up, the stack would reach 35,000 feet in the air, the height at which large commercial jets fly.
We hope you had an awesome summer. We certainly had a blast playing with all of you. When your friends ask you how you spent your summer vacation, you can tell them that you and 4.5 million of your closest friends visited too many games to count.
