Weekly ROBLOX Roundup logoEvery week, we’re busy telling the stories behind our platform, our technology, and our place in the gaming and technology industries. For those of you who catch up with ROBLOX over the weekend, the Weekly ROBLOX Roundup collects the best stuff to hit our various avenues of publication in the last week. This time: ROBLOX Tablets in the Catalog, unlocking the 100,000 concurrent users achievement, must-see feats of ROBLOX building, Sorcus’ ultimate sword series, ROBLOX in the press and more.

Seven-day Blog Recap

Purchase a ROBLOX Tablet, get a real iPad

ROBLOX kicked off an iPad promotion this week. Each day, a ROBLOX Tablet will be released in the Catalog. Each one will be more expensive than the last. Once the ROBLOX iPad app is officially released, all users with a ROBLOX Tablet in their inventory will receive a physical iPad from ROBLOX. The first few have already been snatched up by the quickest of ROBLOX users, but we’ll be releasing more. Find all the details in our blog post about the promotion.

100,000 concurrent users

ROBLOX reached an impressive milestone just over a week ago: 100,000 concurrent users. We scoured the internet to find out how many concurrent users other massively multiplayer games, from Dota 2 and League of Legends to Guild Wars II and Star Wars: The Old Republic, draw. See what we found in the complete blog post.

I took some time last week to explore ROBLOX’s top builders and building communities, and found a bunch of stellar places that you have to see to believe. In this case, a picture is worth a thousand words, so check out the article for multiple angles of each showcased place.

We’ve seen a number of national press outlets recognize ROBLOX and its great community in recent months, but The New York Times writer Diane Mehta published one of the most unique perspectives of all on Friday. Here’s an excerpt from her heartwarming story:

But while playing Roblox with M., he quieted down. The structure of the game constricted his behavior to imaginative activities in that particular environment. For a child with a fast mind and the verbal expansiveness of a kid much older than himself, the strictures of the massively multiplayer game helped structure the friendship he was building. For the first time all year, he took advice without falling apart; he gave M. a chance to speak. He wasn’t doing all the talking.

In light of this story, we pulled together great, recent mentions of ROBLOX in the press, from niche to national publications. The positive coverage speaks volumes of ROBLOX’s development teams and passionate community.

You should play this ROBLOX game

Shi No Numa is a survival game, where players must work as a team to fend off increasingly tough waves of zombies. The fun comes not only from the challenge of survival, but how the game requires players to work as a team. I’ve played the game for a while and quickly learned how important it is to help revive downed cohorts, contribute to building up destroyed defenses and stay close to one another. The guns could use some polish — creator Starbattle uses 2D bitmaps that glitch visually when turning quickly — but that doesn’t detract much from the survival experience.
