Weekly ROBLOX Roundup logoEvery week, we’re busy telling the stories behind our platform, our technology, and our place in the gaming and technology industries. For those of you who catch up with ROBLOX over the weekend, the Weekly ROBLOX Roundup collects the best stuff to hit our various avenues of publication in the last week. This time: we talk with Uuvinu, the creator of ROBLOXRanks.com, we respond to your ideas for ROBLOX, several developers talk about the games they’re playing, the latest entry in our series about the ongoing development of ROBLOX for iPad, ROBLOX FPS Authority, ROBLOX on Google+ and more.

Seven-day Blog Recap

Spotlight on Uuvinu, the creator of ROBLOXRanks.com

Spotlight: UuvinuUser Uuvinu put together a website that ranks users based on a variety of different factors. It’s a very interesting service that’s getting thousands of hits a month. He’s also the creator of The Vortex, a ROBLOX game that emulates Portal pretty realistically. We chatted with him about his work and summarized our conversation in this, the latest Spotlight article.

What non-ROBLOX games are the developers playing?

We live, eat and breathe gaming, whether we’re here at ROBLOX HQ or at home. We decided to talk to a bunch of ROBLOX game developers about the games they’re playing in their free time. Some were to be expected, but others were surprising choices. Check out the blog post and let us know what you think of their choices.

Code Profiling ToolIn depth: improving ROBLOX’s performance on iPad

The ROBLOX Client Team has been neck-deep in ROBLOX’s source code over the last month, identifying ways to make ROBLOX lighter and run at a stable frame rate. This article documents a few of the techniques, including debris culling and code profiling, the developers have implemented to get games running smoothly on the iPad.

Responding to your ideas for ROBLOX

ROBLOX Creative Director John Shedletsky responds to users’ ideas for one-time-use Game Passes, in-game advertising, exporting 3D models, in-app Studio tutorials, canvas objects and more. If you’re interested in the future of ROBLOX, check out the latest Responding to User Feedback. For previous entries in this ongoing series, click here.

You should play this ROBLOX game

Authority is a first-person shooter with the pace of Counter-Strike, and the depth and replay value of the Modern Warfare/Black Ops-era Call of Duty. The game features detailed guns with custom animations, a stylized “aim mode” (press Q), satisfying weapon sounds and slick, responsive menus. Authority also allows you to do something we always appreciate: use the shift key to sprint! It’s a work in progress, but it already shows promise. Here’s a quick video with 30 seconds of game footage:
