Every week, we’re busy telling the stories behind our platform, our technology, and our place in the gaming and technology industries. For those of you who catch up with ROBLOX over the weekend, the Weekly ROBLOX Roundup collects the best stuff to hit our various avenues of publication in the last week. This time: RGC 2012, ROBLOX stats from the first half of 2012 and more RGC 2012.

Creating content at a record pace

We dove into ROBLOX users’ game-creation and game-play statistics for the first half of 2012, and discovered that our community is on pace to set a bunch of new records for ROBLOX. Between 3.8 million games created and more than 123 million game-play hours logged in the year’s first six months, ROBLOX users are constantly developing, designing, sharing and interacting with new content.

Free items with prepaid ROBLOX cards

ROBLOX has partnered with several national retailers to distribute prepaid game cards, which users can buy and redeem for Robux and Builders Club memberships. Some cards come with free virtual gear, including this month’s exclusive Slurpee from 7-Eleven. Check out the full roundup here.

RGC 2012 LogoROBLOX Game Conference 2012

Over the past few weeks, the entire ROBLOX staff has been preparing for RGC 2012, which took place in Santa Clara, Calif., on July 14, 2012. The event was great — the Hackathon was bustling for its three-hour run, the Main Stage presentations were informative and original, and the entire day gave us an opportunity to speak with our users, in the flesh. While we shared some information, including our recap of the Hall of Fame winners and nominees, throughout the day, plenty of other users and writers chipped in with their own perspective.

The San Jose Mercury News reporter Sharon Noguchi attended the event and wrote a perceptive overview of it, including thoughts from a number of ROBLOX users. Even if you couldn’t attend, the photo gallery might make you feel like you were there.

VentureBeat posted a short wrap-up of RGC 2012, including mentions of author and ROBLOX user Brandon LaRouche’s “Basic ROBLOX Lua Programming” — which sold out at the event — and ROBLOX user turned employee, Luke Weber.

Finally, Stan Rezaee reported on the event and its many presentations and activities for DigitalJournal. Check it out for a little more insight into RGC 2012.

During the event, we walked the show floor with a camera. If you couldn’t be there, perhaps this will give you a hint of the atmosphere and energy at RGC 2012.

LuaLearners, a ROBLOX-focused website by user coolbob44, has its own recap of RGC 2012, with many details from Main Stage presentations and a photo gallery. LuaLearners was one of our nominees for “Best Fan Blog” in this year’s Hall of Fame.

We’ll have additional photos, thoughts and content to share from the event this week. Stay tuned.

We hope you enjoyed RGC 2012 just as much as we did.

ROBLOX, elsewhere on the web

Gamasutra LogoROBLOX Lead Physics Engineer Kevin He contributed a detailed feature to Gamasutra. The article goes in-depth on the evolution of ROBLOX’s physics engine, including the transitions to aggregated physics simulation and a distributed physics engine. If you’re interested in physics simulations, especially in a large-scale, online environment, be sure to read the article.
